Dear Athena,
I am in love with a man who loves another. He is a beautiful man. His chiseled face, his lean arms, and his gentle touch won my heart before he ever met her.
When it was he and I, only him and me, he was the most romantic man I’ve ever met. He took me out dancing in the middle of the night, and stole kisses under the oak tree, when no one was looking. When he held me, he was gentle. His strong arms held me gently, and kindly, as only a true lover can. He serenaded me outside my window, and gave me gifts that he created; a necklace of sea shells, a rosebush he grew himself, and so much more than just that. His love was gentle, kind, respectful, teasing, and firm. His love was the love that only a true man can give. He loved me more than anyone
But then he met one of my best friends; we shall call “Thief.” He saw her, and swooned. He not only forgot about me, but now despises me. He loves her, and wants her, but she loves another man. He won’t accept me, but he needs the girl whose father he loves.
I would do anything for him, and yet he won’t speak to me, he won’t even look at me the same. His eyes are no longer full of love and longing, but hatred. The more I love him, the more he hates me. The more I pursue him, the more he evades me. He is all that I want, all that I need, and I feel that I will die without him. Beautiful, wise, glorious Athena, I need to know what to do. I’m utterly confused and don’t have any idea what to do. Please help!
Sincerely,
With respect and love,
The Hopeless Lover
